Final report
Well the finals and playoffs have been decided.
Several matches were very close and one went down to the last board.
The Open (Mens) final was 85 - 84 China beating China Hong Kong. China Hong Kong missed a thin but biddable non vulnerable game on the last board to lose 7 imps and the match. Unfortunately, they will remember only this board when reviewing the outcome which is of course not a true reflection.
The Womens final was won by China Taipei beating the strong Chinese ladies team 118 - 99.
The Seniors final was won by China Taipei beating India B 115 - 103.
Now for the Aussies.
The Mixed final was won by Matthew Thomson (captain), David Beauchamp, Catherine Herden and Jodi Tutty of Australia. They seemed to show their versality by playing a male - female combination but not with set partnerships. They were very good in qualifying and carried that form through the semi final and final. Well done.
The Womens playoff was won by Sheila Bird, Eva Caplan, Karen Creet, Jane Reynolds, Jenny Thompson and Viv Wood (and Kim Morrison was the non playing captain) of Australia. They showed great poise and were generally competitive in all their matches which is a great sign. This is a relatively new look team and they will benefit from the experience.
