The Australian Open and Women's Playoffs will be held December 8-13, 2012 at the Coogee Bay Hotel, 253 Coogee Bay Road, Coogee.

 • Parking

There will be 52 parking spaces (subject to availability) at the venue. There is a public car park on the corner of Brook St and Coogee Bay Rd ($30 per day).

 • Accommodation

ACCOMMODATION IN COOGEE

  • At the venue. The Coogee Bay Hotel offers two room types - Boutique 4* hotel rooms and budget 'pub style' (3*) rooms over the hotel's entertainment areas. Visit their website for more information: www.coogeebayhotel.com.au
  • The Dive Hotel - within 5 minutes walk on Arden Street. Also 4* www.divehotel.com.au
  • Crowne Plaza Hotel - also within 5 minutes walk but a little further down Arden Street. This hotel has a 4 1/2 * rating. Toll free 1800 669 562 or book online at www.crowneplaza.com
  • Medina Executive Coogee - A little further from the beach on Coogee Bay Road, but still within 5 minutes of the venue, this hotel offers both 1 and 2 bedroom apartments as well as studio rooms. Also 4*. www.medina.com.au
  • Coogee View Serviced Apartments Located at the southern end of Coogee Beach they offer a range of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom self catering apartments. Still within a few minutes walk. www.aeahotels.com.au
  • Coogee Sands Hotel and Apartments Located at the northern end of the beach. Probably little further than the other options but not by much. www.coogeesands.com.au
  • An extensive range of private style rentals can also be found at www.stayz.com.au. These include apartments and houses offering a range of facilities and locations within Coogee.

 • Fees and Subsidies

  • The entry fee is $1560 per team for Division One entrants. The entry fee is $600 per team for Division Two entrants.
  • Entry fees must be paid by direct deposit into the ABF Account (BSB: 082968; A/C: 641482644) by the close of business on Tuesday 20th November, 2012
  • Teams advancing from Division Two to the Repechage are required to pay an additional entry fee of $960. The additional entry fee must be paid to the Tournament Organiser at the venue.
  • The ABF policy on entry fees paid by Youth players applies to this event.
  • Travel subsidies are available for players (but not non-playing captains) in the teams accepted into the Women's and Open Division One Playoffs, and to the two successful teams from Division Two that qualify for the repechage.
  • Subsidies will be paid at the commencement of the Playoffs by direct bank transfer into a nominated bank account. In exceptional circumstances, the subsidy will be paid by a cheque sent by post at the conclusion of the Playoffs.

 • Format

The 2013 Australian Open and Women's Teams Playoffs will be in a teams format and depending on the number of teams entering the playoff will follow the two Division model used in 2012 with the additional requirement that all players in either Division must have earned at least 1 PQP in that category (Open or Women's). Teams will be ranked by their total PQPs after any points not earned within the unit of the Playoff entry have been halved. The top four teams will constitute Division 1.

Women's
Division 1 6 teams Double round robin of 16 board matches 3 days (Sat-Mon)
Final 2 teams 96 board match (Tue-Wed)

 • Target Events

Australia will be sending representative teams to Bali for the Bermuda Bowl, Venice Cup and D'Orsi Bowl and also to Hong Kong for the APBF. The right to represent Australia at both of these events will be offered to the winning team in each of the Playoff categories. Should a team be unavailable to participate, then the second placed team will be offered the opportunity to attend in place of the team who declined to attend.
