The Chilean pair bid a basically no play slam as NS when Renee Cooper playing with Francesca McGrath took a plus by doubling 5♦. 10 imps
Chile made a 3NT NS that was not made by Australia [with 9 tricks when you proceed on a particular line]. -10 imps
NS bid a pushy vulnerable 4♥ which would have made on an average to good day but ♥s were 4 – 0. – 8 imps.
Match 2
Australia vs Indonesia 30 29 which converts to 10.33 9.67

East – West Jamie Thompson playing with Matt Smith
An innocent partner score 1♦ doubled making in one room and 2♦ doubled going 2 down vulnerable in the other room cost 12 imps.
All vulnerable, Tomer Libman playing with Andrew Spooner made 4♠ doubled in one room and Jamie Thompson playing with Matt Smith took the vulnerable 5♦ save doubled in the other room for +12 imps.
Indonesia judged to play in an excellent 5♦ making while Australia played in 3NT which required a failing ♥ finesse which cost 11 imps.
Jamie Thompson playing with Matt Smith made a shaky 3NT which failed in the other room for +10 imps.
A well-played match by both teams taking their opportunities when presented.

There were several hands where part score imps trickled out [the opponents tended to be aggressive in the auctions]. However, there was one major loss where Australia let through a vulnerable 3NT.
South was on lead against 3NT and led the K♣.
USA1 are a very good team and this is just our first significant loss.
There were only 3 matches today.
End of Day Summary
Australia is in 11th position having played several of the stronger teams and we are certainly still well in the hunt for a strong finishing position.

Matt Smith must be congratulated for submitting to the bulletin a hand played by his Polish opponent. An intra-finesse in ♠s and then an endplay in the end game.
This gracious act only enhances his growing reputation in the bridge world.
