Day 7 update

Day 7 Update

Today was the second last day of the event and our teams are running 4th, 5th (two teams) and 8th (two teams). We need a big day tommorow for the final three matches to bring home any medals.

Open Team

The Open team had a great day today with three wins from three matches - India (44-38), Singapore (42-16) and Chinese Taipei (39-19).  They are currently in 4th place and are only 2VP's behind 3rd and 6VP's behind 2nd.  The leading team, China is 28 VP's ahead of 2nd and it would be difficult for anyone to catch them.

Our Open team has a tough day tomorrow.  They start with Indonesia who is in 6th place, then China who is leading the event and finally China Hong Kong who is in 2nd place.

New Zealand is only 3VP's behind Australia and has an easier run home, playing teams currently running 8th, 10th and 11th.

Mixed Team

The Mixed Team also had a good day today, beating Philippines (45-13) and Singapore (37-28), but had a small loss to Thailand (35-41).  They are 27 VP's behing 3rd place with three matches to play.  Like the Open Team, they also have a tough day ahead tomorrow, playing Chinese Taipei (2nd), Indonesia (3rd) and China Hong Kong (9th).

The Mixed Team is pictured below.

Seniors Teams

Our Seniors A team played 4 matches today and had wins against China Hong Kong B (39-36), India (30-16) and Singapore B (38-18) and a small loss against Indonesia B (15-18).  They are currently in 5th place and are 27VP's behind third place. Whilst no match in international competition is easy, the three matches tomorrow are all against teams who are currently placed below them, so some good wins could put them in medal contention.

Our Seniors B team is in 8th place, but only 4VP's behind the A team.  Today they lost to Indonesia A (1-63) and China Hong Kong A (17-52) and won against Japan (14-13) and Singapore A (27-22).  They are facing a tough day tomorrow playing the teams that are currently running 1st (China), 3rd  (Chinese Taipei B) and 4th (New Zealand).

Women's Team

Our Women's team would have been pleased to win the 'grudge' match against New Zealand today (43-34) and they also beat Korea (33-22), but lost against China (21-56) and Japan (22-37).  They are currently in 8th place and are 1VP behind New Zealand.

All the best to all of our teams for their final day in the 2019 Asia Pacific Bridge Federation Championships.
