2005 Australian Seniors Team Playoff

April 5, 2005

The wildcard entry of the Newman team (John Newman-Henry Christie, Peter Buchen-Andrew Markovics, Pauline Gumby-Avi Kanetkar) has been accepted to the 2005 Seniors Team Playoff.

There are currently only five entries for the 2005 Australian Seniors Team Playoff. The following entries are accepted and confirmed subject to PQP checking. None of the players in these teams may apply to be part of a wildcard entry.

  • Alex Yezerski Gary Lane Egon Auerbach Judy Marks William Westwood Ian McKinnon
  • Alan Walsh Barbara McDonald Mike Hughes Ted Griffin Robert Krochmalik Paul Lavings
  • Roy Nixon NPC (TBC) John Ashworth Terry Piper Robert Gallus David Smith Grant Kilvington Charles Snashall
  • Barry Noble George Bilski Chris Hughes Wally Malaczynski Terry Brown Peter Chan

All entrants will have the opportunity in their declaration to nominate their availability for either the Seniors Cup in Estoril Portugal and/or the PABF in Seoul.

The ABF have determined that the Neill entry (Bruce Neill Bill Haughie Zolly Nagy David Lilley George Smolanko Ron Klinger) for the Seniors will be accepted subject to their declaration of availability stating that the team is available for the Seniors Cup in Estoril ONLY.

This being the case one entry only will be selected from the nominations received as a result of the reopened entries which closes at 16:00 Monday 4th April 2005.

The entries are being reopened so that the ABF Tournament Committee can select a wild card entry. The TC will not be bound by any formula in its selection process but will generally have regard to allowing a wildcard for the team which the TC, in its sole discretion, determines to be the most appropriate for consideration as a representative seniors team.

Having regard to the facts above the ABF have decided to reopen entries to the seniors as follows:

  • Any player with open or seniors PQPs is entitled to enter.
  • There is no requirement for a player to possess any Seniors PQPs.
  • There is no requirement for qualifying PQPs for the designated partnership, i.e. the designated pair need not have earned PQPs in the same pair or team.
  • Players must of course be eligible to compete in the designated WBF Seniors events.

All other general conditions of entry will still apply including, but not limited to: requirement to make systems declaration, requirement to sign declaration of availability, no subsidy paid to teams 5 and 6.

The ABF, in accordance with section 3.9 of the regulations will select from those additional entries the team which will complete the Seniors playoff entries.

The ABF is not bound to accept entries in PQP order and need not declare the basis for the acceptance or rejection of any entry made during this reopening process.

Entries, which must be made through the ABF website, will open forthwith and will close at 16:00 Monday 4th April 2005. All enquiries to David Stern david@dbbc.net.
