Format change for Women's/Seniors' Teams

2014 Linda Stern Women's Teams and Bobby Evans Seniors' Teams

 

Due to a reduction in the number of entrants to the Linda Stern Women's Teams this year, it was felt that it would not be appropriate - nor satisfying for the majority of participants  - to run the usual Swiss event over 9 rounds. Following consultation with various players, the following format will be implemented. We hope that it improves your enjoyment of the event. If you have any comments to make on how the format worked or suggestions for future improvements, we would be very happy to get your feedback at the conclusion of the event. 

The 2014 Bobby Evans Seniors' Teams will use the identical format.

 

This Year's Format

The field has been seeded into two pools, each of eight teams. Each pool will play a full round-robin of 20 board matches in Rounds 1 to 7. At the conclusion of Round 7, the two leading teams in each pool (4 teams in total) will move into the semi-finals. The semi-finals will be over 40 boards, played in two sets of 20 boards. For Rounds 8 and 9, the remainder of the field will be merged into a Swiss movement playing against teams from the other pool
